Power of Wind

Wind power has always been one of my favorite ideas for alternative energy resource. Partly the reason behind this was because it was one of the first natural resource I started to learn about. Shocking the first person I started reading about was a man that made a living off of owning oil fields. This person is Tee Boone Pickens since 2008 he has wanted us to look for a change in our energy source to a more sustainable one.He realizes that gas isn’t the best way to go and stated this "You find an oil field, it peaks and starts declining, and you've got to find another one to replace it. With wind there's no deadline curve.". It is believed that wind can cover about 20% of our needed electricity. The states with the highest wind power use now is Minnesota and Iowa which both get around 7%.
With greenhouse gases to worry about wind turbines could help to lower them significantly. Each turbine reduces CO2 emissions by over 3,000 tons. There is still a long way to go and without much government support to create enough wind turbines to make a difference. It has more than 40 years since we have considered switching energy sources. Every President has promised to “make the US energy independent,” but over that same period, we went from importing 24% of our oil to importing over 65%. President Obama maybe different considering the position he is in with the raise in gas prices. In 2008 he set a goal to be end the dependence on Middle East oil in the next 10 years. The only problem with this is that there hasn’t been much increase in the past 3 years.

The Start

Durning this blog I will talk about the ways humans have made strides in bettering the earth. Each blog I will talk about a different type of energy source that could help us in solving our energy troubles. I will also talk about ways I have been cutting back on wasting resources, such as driving and recycling.

We are at a crucial time with how we treat the world we live in. We need to start to look in a more environmentally friendly way of living in harmony with our surroundings. Change needs to be soon or we could effect them to a point were we damaged the environment to much to restore.
